Khaled El-Rouayheb New Director of Alwaleed Islamic Studies Program

Khaled El-RouayhebWe are excited to announce that Khaled El-Rouayheb, James Richard Jewett Professor of Arabic and Islamic Intellectual History and chair of the Department of Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations, is the new faculty director of the Alwaleed Islamic Studies Program. Provost Alan Garber announced Professor El-Rouayheb as the director in June 2021 and his term began on July 1st.

Professor El-Rouayheb is succeeding Tarek Masoud, Sultan of Oman Professor of International Relations at the Kennedy School of Government, under whose leadership the program initiated the Alwaleed bin Talal Thesis Prizes, the Alwaleed bin Talal Seminar in Islamic Studies, Early-Career Faculty Grants, and the Harvard Islamica Podcast.

We are grateful to Professor Masoud for his excellent leadership over the past three years and look forward to continued growth for our program and Islamic studies at Harvard more generally under Professor El-Rouayheb’s leadership in the years to come.
