Nariman Aavani is a PhD candidate in the Comparative Study of Religion at Harvard University. He is currently working on a critical study of Abu’l Faḍl Fayḍī’s Shāriq al-ma‘rifah (The Illuminator of Knowledge). Mr. Aavani is interested in the way Abu’l Faḍl Fayḍī engages in a study of Yoga and Vedanta, and specifically the way Fayḍī’s interpretation of the Ishrāqī School shapes and informs his encounter with these schools of thought.

Mr. Aavani is also working on a second research project on the development post-Avicenna philosophy in Islam in particular in the writings of Dawānī and Dashtakī.

Mr. Aavani received his Master of Theological Studies in South Asian traditions from Harvard Divinity School in 2016. He also holds a Master’s in Islamic Studies from The George Washington University (2014) and a Bachelor’s in Philosophy from The University of Tehran (2011).
